The REGARD festival on display

For its 15th year, REGARD gets its precious archives out on the main square and sets-up an extremely rich multimedia exhibition. Posters from the event, scenery pieces, programs, photographs from the Festival and improvised films are extracted from a surprising package of artefacts in order to constitute an impressive exhibition. A fascinating overview, which bears witness to the tremendous changes that have occurred throughout the years, is offered to the public. Images that tell much about the type of challenges that such an adventure faces.

 

Séquence

Friday march 11th > 19 h

For a few years already, Séquence has given a special attention to the sound aspect of present-days artistic practice. Within the framework of the REGARD- International Short Film Festival, it appeared interesting for us to present what issues from this type of research when applied to cinema. The work of French artist Juliette Bineau questions the subject of sound tracks in cinema. The remarkable nature of her proposal rests with her dismissal of established standards as she gives different forms to the strategy of the «remake».

Interdisciplinary artist, Juliette Bineau is nowadays a cineaste immersed in the production of peculiar films, re-making as it comes and «arte povera» the works of cinema’s grand Masters. Her films, described as “modeled remakes” propose a new cinematographic re-writing.

« In this «re-making», I take over the work, move it around, betray it, trying to renew and revitalize the personal and archetypal stakes. » J.B.

Sequence is proud to associate itself with the Festival within the framework of this first diffusion on Canadian soil.

From Bring Me the Head of Alfredo Garcia, by Sam Peckinpah, 1974. A couple is rolling towards the north’s arid mountains. He is French, she is Argentinean and they are on the trail of a dead man, Alfredo Garcia, who has a price on his head. A man is on their heels, with the severed head at arm’s length. They wander like Yankee zombies in an Indian purgatory.

Robocop Memory Room

From Robocop, by Paul Verhoeven, 1987. The film turns around a central sequence: the “memory room” where Murphy the cop, raised from the dead as Robocop, returns to his old home.

EPOPEE.ME
March 8th to 13th > Espace Michael Snow [Séquence]

EPOPEE.ME is a web fiction project — short films written and shot in collaboration with persons who experience exclusion in Montreal’s South-Center area. Produced by Le Grim (C) — a cinema action group created from the team of the documentary Hommes à louer by Rodrigue Jean.
