Directing actors
Directing actors is not limited to onstage work. From casting to filming, the director must find a way and a language to prepare and direct his actors. The artists’ talent, linked to the mastering of this common language, will then guarantee the film’s acting quality.
Centered on the acquisition of the knowledge necessary to the thinking and selecting process which precedes filming, this training course allows eight pre-selected young directors to profit from the techniques and astuteness of a seasoned professional. In a first approach, the notions of tone cohesiveness, casting, tools to be supplied to actors and means to evaluate auditions will be tackled. Guided by the instructor, the participants will then have to get involved in a genuine work session with actors for a scene that they will have either chosen or authored. An incredible chance to tackle the basics of the trade and to get involved in a rigorous, playful and efficient approach.
Philippe Falardeau
In the beginnings of the 1990s, Philippe Falardeau participated in the TV program La course destination monde, where he directed 20 short films. His first feature film, La moitié gauche du frigo, received much praise in the international festivals circuit (Rotterdam, London, Paris, Seattle). After a world première at la Quinzaine des réalisateurs in Cannes, his second feature film, Congorama, kept up performing and earned many awards, among which five Jutra. In 2008, C'est pas moi, je le jure! was presented as a world première at the Berlinale. The film started off to a dazzling international career by earning 13 awards, among which, the prestigious Crystal Bear and Grand Prize of the Deutsche Kinderhilfswerk.
